Team History:
The Dixie Strutters began in West Hempstead, NY in 1957. The charter members paid 25 cents
an hour for twirling lessons with Nancy, a very ambitious teenager. They entered their first competition in March
of 1958, and were the first primary team ever to compete. They won the first of many trophies that day, and began
a winning streak that would last for over 35 years!
In 1973, Nancy and her family relocated to Plano, TX. The Dixie Strutters were competing
again by 1978. Over the years, they entertained crowds at parades, recitals and competitions throughout the U.S.
Some went on to become twirlers with their high school and college bands. Some became leaders
of their cheerleading squad or dance team. Others won national and international championships. Sometimes,
the prize was simply learning to set and achieve goals in life or to feel confident in oneself.
"It is my wish that each of you has been able to navigate through life a little bit better because
of your experience as a Dixie Strutter. " -Nancy
